Victorian Mourning Cross Pendant Braided Hair Engraved 14 Karat Rose Gold 5 mm Thick 1 Inch Wide 1 3/4 Inches Long
Religious mourning jewelry was popular during the Victorian era and very often contained a memento of a loved one who had passed away. It was usually a lock of hair from the deceased. In this case, that lock of hair was carefully braided around a hollow rounded metal cross shape and the ends were capped off in 14 Karat rose gold. The end caps are engraved and have a concave disc shape.
This piece is in good condition, no frays. It measures 1 3/4 inches long by 1 inch wide and 5 mm thick. The gold has been acid tested for its purity. Mourning jewelry containing hair is delicate and should not be submerged in water or any other fluid.
