This is a lovely vintage opal ring from a New Orleans Estate. The ring features one genuine oval opal that displays flashes of fire red, iridescent blue and bright amber. The stone is approximately 3/4 of an inch long, 1/2 of an inch wide, and 1/4 of an inch deep. The metal work includes a bezel setting with a twisted rope motif, rose gold flower and yellow gold leaves on the top, intricate engraving on the shank shoulders, and an open filigree gallery that allows light in for the gemstone.
The ring weighs 5 pennyweights or 7.78 grams. The gemstone does have visible fault lines as shown on the accompanying images. It is a size 7. This ring is from the 1980's.
The previous owner was a fierce advocate for the humane treatment of zoo animals and spearheaded the effort to reform the habitat and treatment of animals in Public Zoos. The zoos of today are better than the zoos of the mid-century because in part of the hard work and compassion Margaret willing gave to the reform movement.
