This one of a kind necklace features an original early 19th Century intaglio impression. It is simply but securely bezel set in 18 karat rose gold. This authentic neoclassical miniature is attached to a beautiful classic solid 18 karat rose gold Rollo link chain.
Incised on its back number 171, of Polish Prince Stanislaus Poniatowski Collection, and signed Gnaios. This Italian neoclassical gem-engraver carved his interpretation of this Apollo myth with Dryope into a slice of Sardonyx.
The Apollo and Dryope necklace is one of the original impressions from Mon Coeur’s rare collection of intaglio impressions. The "white enamel" plaster of Paris impression was made from T171 of, the avid art collector, Polish Prince Stanislaus Poniatowski 2,500 commissioned gem intaglios.
Prince Poniatowski lived in Rome between 1754 and 1833. These numbered miniature masterpieces are original art inspired by the literature of Greek mythology of the god, goddess, heroes, and heroines.
This impression collection was previous owned by UK General Sir Alexander Walker (1764-1831) and his son William Stuart Walker (1817-1896). The collection was held in a small wooden curio case being admired by a select few.
This antique original Impression 171 is 30 millimeters tall and 45 mm wide and 17.5 inches long with swag of festoon draping chains. The entire necklace weights 23.1 grams.
