Blue Crystal Bead 2 Strands Pendant Necklace Mother of Pearl Fan Blade Pendants 1 Inches Wide 2.5 inches Long Sterling Silver 24 Inches Long
This bib necklace features three fan blade pendants and each is approximately 2 1/2 inches long, 1 1/4 inches wide and 1 millimeter thick. They dramatically project down on your chest from two strands of cool blue glass and flashing black diamond Swarovski crystals. The wonderful assortment of blue beads is old Czechoslovakian glass beads I purchased from an East German bead trader shortly after the removal of the Berlin Wall. The necklace is hand-knotted and has a sterling silver toggle clasp and chain dangle. The first strand of the necklace is 24 inches long and the second drapes closely next to it at 25 inches.
A little bit of trivia, Mother of Pearl fans were a symbol of being “promised” to be married when used in public by the gentle Southern ladies of the 19th Century. Hence came, the “Promised” jewelry line by Mon Coeur Fine Jewelry. The pieces are created by re-purposing a 19th Century carved and silver in-lay mother-of-pearl fan. After Hurricane Katrina, in 2005, a huge clean-up effort began in the city. Many historical homes were severely damaged by the high winds, tornadoes, and floods. When I acquired this beautiful fan, I also acquired a wedding gown, and the matching silk shoes. I believe these items came from the attic of the home once owned by Colonel Henry G. Hester and his bride Fannie Lea. The Colonel led the New Orleans Cotton Exchange which was founded in 1871.
