This 1940’s era off-white Beadline enamel mesh bag features a bold purse frame and chain link handle made of celluloid, an early plastic.
The handbag is 8" inches wide and 7" inches long across the bottom. The purse frame is 9 1/4" inches across and the chain link handle is 9” inches long. The celluloid handle is a prefect length to comfortably be held on your wrist.
The interior fabric lining is intact but shows its age. The lining is browning a bit but it has no tears in the fabric. The interior section is 6" inches deep and opens 5” wide by 5 1/2" inches across. This handbag is in good overall condition.
The label is missing but it is my opinion that this handbag was manufactured by Whiting & Davis, designed by Schiaparelli. Their advertising ads with the slogan "Hand in Hand with Fashion." in Harper's Bazaar Magazine between 1937 and 1939 shows bags similar to this one.
